Graylingwell Hospital was almost self-sufficient due to its two farms providing meat, milk, vegetables and fruit. Both male and female patients worked on Graylingwell Farm and Martin’s Farm. Perhaps the most notable animals were the farm’s herd of dairy Shorthorn cattle. The herd achieved several top places for breed quantity in the National Milk Records in the 1950s.
