Taking over the ownership and management of Graylingwell Chapel will enable CCDT to restore, conserve and repurpose a previously significant building on the Graylingwell Hospital complex to make it accessible to the new community of Graylingwell Park and surrounding areas. Alongside this we are also seeking to provide a platform to raise awareness and reduce the stigma of mental health issues. We will achieve this by working in partnership with local heritage and learning organistaions as well as organisations, agencies and individuals supporting mental health and wellbeing.
The programme of activities, developed through extensive public consultations and the forging of new and existing partnerships, is aimed at a mix of audiences that reflect the local and wider Chichester communities. The events, workshops, talks and trails range cover a range of topics and themes enabling people to discover and explore the history of Graylingwell, and drawing on it to discuss and raise awareness of mental health and support wellbeing for a better quality of life.
CCDT has a track record of working with local community groups, supporting people to develop their services and providing opportunities to deliver projects. Graylingwell Chapel provides extended space and further opportunities to build on and develop this work, offering a number of spaces for a range of different activities to take place.
